Researcher & Consultant

I am contracting with MVLRI, the research arm of Michigan Virtual, to conduct research and write reports for the Wisconsin Digital Learning Collaborative.

Consultant, Gaeltacht e-Hub Project

Together with H2 Learning, I serve as a consultant for the Gaeltacht e-Hub Project, where Irish-language schools are working together to provide an online and blended learning experience for their students who do not have access to certain hard-to-cover subject areas in rural parts of Ireland.


Consultant, Professional Learning for K-12 Online Teaching

I am providing guidance and content to the Crosslake Community Schools in Minnesota on professional learning for K-12 online learning.

Researcher & Consultant

I work with Evergreen Education Group as a consultant providing research and guidance on a variety of projects in including their Digital Learning Collaborative.


, Handbook of Research on K-12 Online and Blended Learning

Along with Dr. Rick Ferdig, I co-edit the Handbook of Research on K-12 Online and Blended Learning, a freely-available resource that recently released its second edition via Carnegie Mellon’s ETC Press.


ISTE Recognition Reviewer, Higher Education Programs

ISTE offers a Recognition for Higher Education Programs requiring educational technology graduate programs to pass an in-depth curriculum review of their alignment to the ISTE Standards for Educators. I serve as a review for this program.

Founding Co-Editor, Journal of Online Learning Research

In collaboration with Dr. Leanna Archambault, I am one of the founding Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Online Learning Research, a peer-reviewed, international, open access journal published by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE).

Lead Facilitator, iNACOL Blended Learning Teacher Competency Framework

I served as one of three lead facilitators, with Dr. Beth Rabbitt (TLA) and Dr. Allison Powell (formerly of iNACOL, currently of BloomBoard), to develop the iNACOL Blended Learning Teacher Competency Framework.

Researcher, Integrated Learning Systems Grant

Funded by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation from January 2017 through August 2018, MVLRI documented the learnings of seven high schools in the state of Rhode Island as part of a grant awarded to the Highlander Institute centered on implementation of Integrated Learning Systems.


Standards Co-Lead, Standards for Quality Online Teaching

I served as Standards Co-Lead for the revision of the Standards for Quality Online Teaching, managed by Quality Matters and the Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance. This set of standards will be available in 2019.

Project Manager, Orientation Course for Online Learners

Michigan Virtual is working with the Education Development Center on an Institute for Education Sciences-funded, Low-Cost, Short Duration Grant focused on the effectiveness of an orientation course for first-time online learners at a virtual school. I served as a project manager for this grant.


Consultant, Strategic Planning for Professional Learning Expansion

I conducted a needs assessment and research and composed two Phase reports to inform the strategic planning for the expansion of the Society for Neuroscience’s Scientific Learning Program.
